The service

For working vehicles, cherished classics and modified Land Rovers

Land Rover exhaust requirements are rarely explained by the badge alone. A Defender used on lanes, a Discovery used for regular journeys and an older Range Rover kept for weekends may have very different priorities. Wardale Engineering specialises in bespoke stainless steel exhaust work for Land Rovers alongside classic cars and American imports. Tom is a solo owner-operator with a personal interest in old Land Rovers, so your enquiry goes to the person carrying out the workshop work.

Custom fabrication can be worth discussing when a standard replacement does not suit an existing conversion, original parts are hard to source, or an earlier installation has left awkward joints and supports. Be clear whether you want a complete replacement or advice on a particular section. Full custom exhaust systems start from £800; that starting price is not a published price for every Defender, Discovery or Range Rover component.

There are also manufactured Defender TD5 and Discovery TD5 exhaust parts available by enquiry. Those are a separate route from a bespoke workshop build. If your vehicle is a standard application, a manufactured component may be the conversation to have first. If the engine, gearbox or chassis has changed, share those details before asking which option fits. Compatibility cannot be established from a photograph of the badge.

Get the brief right

Small fitment problems become bigger on a working Land Rover

Ground clearance and support are important considerations on vehicles used beyond ordinary road driving. A system that sits in the wrong place may be exposed to contact, while loose or strained connections can create recurring problems. Give Tom an accurate account of how the vehicle is used, including towing, daily driving or off-road use. Do not assume a route chosen for another Land Rover will suit your vehicle’s suspension or accessories.

A common buying mistake is treating all TD5 parts as interchangeable, or overlooking conversions and previous repairs. Defender and Discovery applications should be discussed separately, and the exact vehicle specification still matters. If a system leaks, rattles or hangs loose, get the condition assessed rather than compensating with another improvised hanger. Fumes and insecure components deserve prompt attention; an appointment request is not a substitute for making an unsafe vehicle safe.

From enquiry to completion

A clear next step at every stage

  1. 1

    Tell Tom what you need

Start with the vehicle or project details and the result you want. For vehicle work, include make, model, year, engine and known modifications. Photographs can help explain the initial enquiry, but flag uncertainty about existing parts or condition rather than guessing. All custom quotes are free.

  2. 2

    Clarify the scope and quote

Discuss which work or product you need and what information is required to confirm it. Ask what is included, what remains outside the scope and which terms apply. Published starting prices are guides to the named services, not fixed prices for every vehicle or an assurance that additional work is included.

  3. 3

    Agree an appointment or order

Workshop visits are strictly by appointment; there are no walk-ins. For workshop work, agree the arrangements with Tom before travelling or leaving a vehicle. For manufactured parts, confirm price, availability and fulfilment directly. No deposit, payment schedule or delivery promise has been supplied for publication.

  4. 4

    Complete the agreed work

The work follows the scope agreed for your vehicle or project. Ask Tom about any inspection, fitment checks or verification relevant to that scope rather than assuming every service includes the same test. If unexpected condition issues affect the job, the next work should be discussed rather than treated as automatically included.

  5. 5

    Discuss handover and ongoing care

Confirm collection, any care instructions and applicable terms before handover. Lifetime warranty availability concerns custom stainless exhaust builds only, not every service or manufactured component. Workshop work takes place Monday to Friday; weekend drop-off and collection can be arranged in advance, but weekend work is not offered.

What matters to you

Practical reasons to plan it properly

Vehicle-specific fitment

Start with the model, engine and modifications, not simply “Land Rover exhaust”. A clear specification reduces the risk of pursuing an unsuitable manufactured component or an incomplete custom brief.

Practical day-to-day use

Talk about clearance, sound and access alongside appearance. A working vehicle should remain usable for the journeys you actually make, including extended road driving as well as occasional off-road use.

A long-term custom option

A lifetime warranty is available on custom stainless exhaust builds. It does not apply to manufactured TD5 parts; ask which terms apply to the exact work or product being quoted.

The detail behind the decision

Defender and Discovery TD5: manufactured or bespoke?

Wardale’s supplied product list includes Defender TD5 and Discovery TD5 exhaust parts. Specific diameters, model-year ranges, prices and stock levels have not been supplied. Contact Tom with the vehicle specification and the section needed. Include whether the existing system is original, aftermarket or already modified, because the connection you need may differ from what a standard listing suggests.

A custom system is a separate discussion if standard components do not suit the vehicle. Useful details include engine conversions, gearbox changes, altered bodywork and the condition of the remaining exhaust. Do not buy first and work out fitment later. Explain your preferred outcome and ask whether a manufactured part or custom fabrication is the more suitable next step; no universal option is promised for every Land Rover.

Range Rover work, routing and road-use considerations

Range Rover owners can enquire about bespoke exhaust work or the listed L322 back box deletes. An L322 product should not be assumed suitable for another Range Rover generation, nor for every L322 engine without checking. The back box delete page explains the information to provide for that specific enquiry. A rear-section change is not the same as replacing the complete exhaust system.

When planning Land Rover exhaust work, consider clearance through the vehicle’s operating range and the heat-sensitive items nearby. Retained emissions components and sensors also matter for a road-going vehicle. No performance increase, MOT result or exact sound level has been supplied. The useful starting point is your vehicle’s specification, current condition and intended use, followed by a quotation for a clearly understood scope.

Mention accessories or modifications that might affect the underside, including anything occupying space near the current exhaust. Also describe how the vehicle is normally loaded and used. These details help frame a clearance discussion without assuming that a system suitable for a standard road vehicle is suitable for your setup. If you have recently bought the Land Rover and do not know its modification history, say so. An uncertain specification should lead to questions, not a guess at a TD5 component. Take photographs only where access is safe and never go underneath a vehicle supported solely by a jack.

Your questions answered

Before you book or enquire

What does a custom Land Rover exhaust cost?

Full custom stainless exhaust systems start from £800, with a free quote for your vehicle. Manufactured TD5 parts have individual prices that have not yet been supplied. A full-system starting price must not be treated as the price of a bolt-on part or rear section.

Do you supply Defender and Discovery TD5 exhaust parts?

Yes, both Defender TD5 and Discovery TD5 exhaust parts are on the supplied manufactured-product list. Sales are by enquiry. Send the exact model, engine and existing system details so Tom can discuss suitability, price and availability without assuming fitment.

How long does it take, and when can I book?

No fixed lead time or turnaround has been supplied for this work. Ask Tom about current availability and the expected arrangements for your specific enquiry before planning travel. Workshop visits require an agreed appointment; sending an enquiry is not confirmation of a booking or a completion date.

What information should I send for an enquiry?

For vehicle work or parts, send the make, model, year, engine, known modifications and what you need changed. For fabrication, include dimensions or drawings and the intended use. Describe existing damage or uncertainty honestly; photographs are useful context, not a substitute for any assessment needed to confirm suitability.

Does this service include a lifetime warranty?

A lifetime warranty is available on custom stainless exhaust builds. Detailed conditions and exclusions have not been supplied here, so ask Tom for the applicable terms before agreeing the quotation. Do not assume it covers unrelated retained components or every service offered by the workshop.

How long will the result last?

No fixed service-life figure has been supplied. The application, condition, use and ongoing care affect what is appropriate to expect. Ask about the proposed material or treatment and any relevant maintenance. A starting price or warranty statement should not be read as a promise that the result never needs checking.

Do you offer emergency work or walk-in appointments?

There are no walk-ins and no published emergency or same-day service promise. Contact Tom to ask about availability. If a vehicle has fumes, insecure components or another safety concern, do not keep driving on the assumption that an enquiry guarantees an immediate repair slot.

Where is the workshop, and can I visit at the weekend?

Wardale Engineering is at Unit 4, Burton Cliff Farm, Middle St, Lincoln LN1 2RG. Hours are Monday to Friday, 7am–6pm, strictly by appointment. There is no weekend work; weekend vehicle drop-off and collection may be arranged beforehand. Agree access with Tom before setting out.
